Raven and Marvin are the type of couple that you just want to know; effortlessly cool, incredibly nice, and have great style. Raven is a writer, blogger, comic book aficionado, and the creative behind @_byraven. We hit it off right away. Their wedding took place at Room 1520 in December of 2011. The vision was to have an intimate wedding (less than 90 guests!) with beautiful and thoughtful details.

In keeping with the personalized details, Raven wanted crosswords and polka dots incorporated into the design element of her wedding day. Lynn from Pollen created beautiful centerpieces and tied Raven’s bouquet with green and white polka dot ribbon. Kathleen from Sweet Table Chicago styled the dessert table and made custom crossword puzzle menu cards for the cupcakes.
I loved the room layout that we did for this wedding. We used farm tables from Tablescapes that each sat 8 guests, giving the dining experience an intimate feel. Mismatched vintage china by Vintage Plate Rental and heirloom silverware were perfect with the farm tables.
The food was VERY important to Raven and Marvin. They chose a menu that reflected them as a couple. During cocktail hour we passed shrimp tempura lollipops, mini crab cakes, mini empanadas, and mini chicken & waffles. Guests then sat down to a three-course dinner starting with a Winter Apple Salad. The second course was Truffle Ricotta Gnocchi with pancetta, fava beans and crème fraiche. One of Raven’s guests described this course as ‘perfect little pillows of deliciousness’ (ultimate compliment!). The entrée was a choice of Suckling Pig with horseradish potato puree, pork rinds and glazed pearl onions or Roasted Chicken Breast with Pistachio-Cilantro Pesto served with a polenta cake, eggplant and olive tapenade, and chicken jus. After dinner, guests enjoyed the sweets table that was filled with delicious treats from local bakeries.
It’s been a little more than a year since Raven and Marvin tied the knot and this is still a wedding that I remember so vividly. We wish them nothing but the best in the future!!
